Anna’s Baby Pictures #1

On September 2nd the O’Hare’s came to Knoxville for the first UT football game. I tried to get them down here early by telling them we needed to start tailgating early; really I wanted them down early so we could share the good news with them. As usual, they took their time. :) Once they arrived, we told them we wanted to get a quick photo of the three of them (Mom, Dad and Ryan). We set them up in front of the fireplace and took the first picture. I then said, “Let’s take one more.” I acted as if I was trying to focus the camera then I said, “Oh, by the way, Anna’s pregnant.” As soon as I finished the sentence, I took the next picture. It was pretty funny. Check out the before and after pictures below.

Second picture - after the news:
On August 31st we called the Dempsey’s. Well, they thought Anna was just calling home to chat. Actually, she had set me up on a three-way call between our cell phones. Anna started the conversation by getting both her mom and dad on the phone. She said she wanted to ask them a question. Once they were both on the phone she asked them, “How do you feel about changing your names in May, something that starts with a ‘G’.” Well, her mom caught on immediately and began to ask questions. However, her dad was very quiet. We didn’t know if he fainted or if he was speechless from shock. Anna finally said, “Dad, what do you think about this, you’ve been kinda quite?” He replied, “What, I can’t even hear what you guys are talking about, this phone is really bad.” Once he got on a new phone and heard the news he was thrilled as was her mom.
On August 29 Anna came home from work around 9:30; she had just picked up a pizza for dinner. I arrived home shortly before her; I had been hanging out with Pappas. When she walked in the door, she set the pizza down and I immediately began to tell her stories about Kinley, Tom and Kim’s 5-month-old baby. I was just talking not paying attention to what Anna was doing, then I realized she was getting out silverware to eat dinner, but there was something odd about that. “A” why does she need silverware to eat pizza, and “B” why is she getting out the kids silverware that came with our set. So I said with a puzzled look on my face, “Why are you using the kids silverware?” Anna replied, “Isn’t it the baby’s silverware.” An even more puzzled look was taking over my face. Why did she feel the need to correct me, so its called the baby silverware, why is she getting it out. She could tell I was confused, so she continued, “For THE baby”. Now, it is very difficult to explain the feeling that came over me at this time. I was actually speechless. We had been trying for about 7-8 months. Keep in mind, that I just spent the last 10 minutes rambling on and on. She caught me off guard; at first, I thought she was kidding. I would start to hug her then ask, “Are you serious?” Then start to hug her again, but quickly stopped to ask her if she was serious. She finally said’ “Would I be crying if I was kidding.” Okay, she was serious. We just hugged and talked the rest of the night. I remember waking up the next day thinking, “Oh my goodness, I’m gonna be a daddy.”
